just peachie

They say you can tell when peaches are ripe by how they smell. Most peaches these days don't even have a smell. But I found some this week that were perfect.
Look for peaches with a background color of warm cream or yellow. The amount of pink indicates variety not ripeness. The skin should not be wrinkled, but plump and no undertones of green. They should slightly yield to pressure but be fairly firm. Once peaches are picked their sweetness will not increase...so be sure to smell for that fragrant perfume!
Peaches are high in vitamin A and C, low in fat, sugar and calories!
Did you know you could grill them? Just brush on a little orange or lemon juice.
They are great over cold cereal or made into a parfait with a little whip cream, or a little high protein, low sugar yogurt. Perfect with cottage cheese or just plain with a little low fat milk...yummmm!
...or you could get creative and explore a puree for a sweet and savory sauce over poultry...
and ...if they are really ripe and flavorful, perfect in that protein shake!
Finding those peaches just reminds me how thankful I am that with each season comes a great new delightful, healthy and wonderful food flavor. Substitute those huge portions with huge flavors...enjoy! Yes we can, we have many more miles to go!
