So, what can we eat?

This section helps you put it all together with menus ideas. Putting menus together can be a challenge. So I'll share some menus I have used during my journey after bariatric surgery.

Check often for updates.

These menus are not listed by food phase unless otherwise stated.

dinner delites

Today was quite an unusual day, I don’t usually get lobster for lunch, it was a special treat. My husband and I had been working in the yard for hours today and I was too exhausted to cook. So, dining out, just the two of us, sounded like the perfect solution.

When dining out, we frequently share a meal, and we typically go for seafood, but tonight we strayed a little from the ordinary and ordered a filet mignon. We started with salad, he ate the salad, no dressing of course, and I just ate one or two of the cucumbers. When the meal came, we split the steak; I only had a couple of ounces. Steak is just not one of my favorite things anymore. I used to order it all the time, but now I’m much happier with the lighter fare. I cut a small section of potato, (about one-fourth of a cup) before he added the butter.

The recommended time out from surgery for red meat is about a year. I find it safer to order the filet than any other cut, and always at the finest restaurants where I am familiar with the cut, it really has to be exceptionally tender. Just a little is very filling. I am very careful with the words “always” and “never”, but since weight loss surgery, there are some “always” and “never” moments, and with red meat, it certainly applies.

Usually, I’ll have a protein several hours after dinner, but not tonight…red meat is slower to digest and with the small portion of potato…I’m still satisfied. Maybe something cold and wet will hit the spot…

Back to chicken and fish…stay tuned!

let's do lunch

Ok, time for lunch.

Today, I was busy with appointments in the morning and yard work in the afternoon. It was certainly a workout…trimming shrubs and trees, spreading pinestraw and planting a few plants.

For lunch it was my favorite seafood, lobster meat with a little celery and onion and a little mayo with assorted fruit on the side. I’d say it was about 3 ounces of lobster and less than one tablespoon mayo (I inquired of the chef to see how many ounces of meat on a serving and and how much mayo was added) and I ordered it without bread, I'd rather have the fruit instead.

It was plenty of unsweetened tea and water while working in the yard in the afternoon sun. About 3 o’clock, I took a protein break and later added a few peanut butter crackers. I’m sure those last few trees I sawed down worked that off pretty quickly. Boy, will I be sore in the morning?  Stay tuned for more....let's do lunch!

breakfast at julia's

OK, so it's not breakfast at Tiffany's, it's better...how about breakfast at my house.

Before weight loss surgery, I hardly ever ate breakfast, but now I don't skip a day without it.

Breakfast before was boring and difficult.  So I had to get creative.  In this section you will find ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner, even snacks....yep...snacks.

bon appetit!

Breakfast today was 1 small container of Oikos Greek Yogurt  (vanilla flavor) and and 1/4 of a Gala apple.  I did add one packet of Splenda.

Right now, I'm on a yogurt and apple kick...a little dusting  of Spenda on an apple and I imagine that I'm having a candied apple.  Delish!!!  You could add any fresh fruit and a little granola, just a sprinkle.  Serve in a small glass or champagne glass.  Remember, you eat with your eyes first, so make it feel as if you're dining at an upscale restaurant ... only better!
