syntha 6

My newest love—Syntha 6 Protein Powder

Syntha 6 is advertised as the best-tasting protein powder - well, I think they may be right. It does taste fantastic.

I like Syntha, not only because it taste good, but because it meets all the requirements for a bariatric friendly protein powder as well. It is low in sugar and carbs, it has more fiber to keep you full longer, and it packs 22 grams of protein.

I see that you posted this a year ago. I am scheduled for gastric bypass surgery in 2 weeks. Tuesday I have a 4 hour meeting at the hospital when I will be given the guidelines for before and after surgery. I am very concerned about the role protein drinks will play in all this. Mostly about the taste. I already have issues with milky drinks, it has nothing to do with adverse affects, just the concept, I've never been able to do milk. Now add in the "protein" taste, and I know I'm in trouble. I bought a jug of the mocha syntha 6, based on amazon reviews, but I would like to know how it has worked out for you,a bypass patient. How is the taste, is the protein to calorie ratio good. I guess anything you could tell me would be appreciated. This is consuming my thoughts. I'm putting it off,but the day is fast approaching. Thank you, Jen

Hi Jen, Congratulations on your decision to have surgery and thank you for supporting Miles to Go Blog. You are wise to begin considering protein supplements well before surgery. I would say keep trying and find several that you can tolerate. You will be drinking them until you lose all your weight and can eat enough protein to rely on real whole food again. I like the syntha 6, it is a good protein supplement, but there are hundreds,(which is good and at the same time confusing, I know). There are other types of liquid protein such as egg protein, soy even things like brewers yeast. Not all of the protein supplements have to be mixed with milk, you an substitute water. There are puddings, and so many avenues for getting it in, even viles, (they don't taste good, but the concentrated amounts are small and you just hold you nose and down it.(be sure it only take about 30 grams at a time, your body can't absorb more that than, so if you get the 40grams and over, divide it up.) There are clear liquid drinks such as Isopure that aren't bad. Remember it may not be the best taste, but your doing it for your health, it will be short term and the results of losing weight and getting healthy are worth it. So stay diligent and determined to succeed. There are several sections on protein on the site that will offer you other available options. I will warn you to limit bars. In the beginning you will only be allow to do liquid. The more protein you can drink, the more weight you will lose, the more muscle you will retain, the speedier your recovery, and the less likely your hair will fall out. Let me know how it goes. Thanks again for writing.
