dinner delites

Today was quite an unusual day, I don’t usually get lobster for lunch, it was a special treat. My husband and I had been working in the yard for hours today and I was too exhausted to cook. So, dining out, just the two of us, sounded like the perfect solution.

When dining out, we frequently share a meal, and we typically go for seafood, but tonight we strayed a little from the ordinary and ordered a filet mignon. We started with salad, he ate the salad, no dressing of course, and I just ate one or two of the cucumbers. When the meal came, we split the steak; I only had a couple of ounces. Steak is just not one of my favorite things anymore. I used to order it all the time, but now I’m much happier with the lighter fare. I cut a small section of potato, (about one-fourth of a cup) before he added the butter.

The recommended time out from surgery for red meat is about a year. I find it safer to order the filet than any other cut, and always at the finest restaurants where I am familiar with the cut, it really has to be exceptionally tender. Just a little is very filling. I am very careful with the words “always” and “never”, but since weight loss surgery, there are some “always” and “never” moments, and with red meat, it certainly applies.

Usually, I’ll have a protein several hours after dinner, but not tonight…red meat is slower to digest and with the small portion of potato…I’m still satisfied. Maybe something cold and wet will hit the spot…

Back to chicken and fish…stay tuned!
